They said the ‘UFO’ over New York was just balloons… so how do they explain the mirror image over El Paso?

It could, of course, just be an amazing coincidence.

First New York was gripped by sightings of UFOs in the sky last week. The fears were quickly debunked by the claim that the ‘UFOs’ were actually balloons released from a nearby school.

But this weekend lights forming a mirror image of the pattern seen in the sky over New York have been seen in El Paso, Texas – immediately sparking speculation that the little green men have moved down south.

First New York… now El Paso? Left, what New Yorkers saw in the Big Apple on Wednesday. Right, what Texans saw over El Paso on the weekend

Witnesses in El Paso flooded local police stations and newsrooms with phone calls. Many reported seeing the same sequence of events in the night sky.

First one light appeared to cascade from the heavens, separating into three, each with a tail behind it.

Then they are seen solidifying into three dots forming a triangle – a triangle that was the mirror image of the three ‘balloons’ in New York.

Next a fourth light appeared, the lights appearing to hover in the air – and then, suddenly, they all went out.

Because it was dark, it seems unlikely that these lights are balloons.

The lights were captured on video and have sparked a frenzy of speculation, especially after a local news station pointed out the simliarity between them and the sightings over New York last week.

The mysterious objects hovered over the West Side of the Big Apple, causing thousands of New Yorkers to wonder what exactly they were seeing.

Mystery: Local witnesses reporting first seeing a single light cascade from the sky

Then, suddenly, the light split in to three parts

The three lights then solidified into three points as they appeared to hover over El Paso

Suddenly a fourth light appeared – and then all four went out. The lights have not yet been explained

Traffic had ground to a halt and pedestrians stopped in their tracks to look skyward at the cluster of dots hovering overhead.

But those objects turned out to be nothing other than wayward party balloons from a school in Mount Vernon.

Angela Freeman, headteacher of the Milestone School in Westchester said she was astonished at all the attention her decorations caused: ‘It was just a freak thing. Frankly, I’m shocked by it’.

The cluster of balloons were apparently inadvertently launched when a parent bought the balloons in for a celebration at the suburban school.

‘The kids had an engagement party for a teacher, and a mother brought four dozen balloons, and she’s coming through the door. It is very windy in Mount Vernon. Suddenly, 12 of the balloons let loose,’ Freeman explained.

As for the lights in El Paso this weekend, speculation is rife on the internet – and no definitive explanation has yet been given.

Many have suggested a military explanation. One observer at Headhot wrote: ‘They are magnesium flares on parachutes. They are used to light up battlefields.

‘A single mortar is launched, then the three flares ignite and drift down on parachutes. Then they burn out and go dark.

‘Odds are there was some national guard training going on.’

Other users suggested they were a night skydiving team practicing for an airshow.

In New York, the shiny balloons which were meant for language arts teacher Andrea Crapara were released at around 1pm. The first ‘UFO’ sighting was just thirty minutes later.

NYPD revealed that the sightings prompted several 911 calls and brought parts of the Chelsea district to a complete standstill.

Mystery: Police and the Federal Aviation Authority were deluged with calls and despite mounting an investigation were unable to ascertain what it was

Veteran UFO spotters had come forward even before the school balloon explanation and were cynical that the object floating in the sky would be unexplained.

Peter Davenport, director of the National UFO Reporting Center in Washington DC said at the time: ‘It had the flavour of a cluster of balloons in my opinion’.

Most people were sceptical that the objects were extra terrestrial life, yet remained transfixed nonetheless.

Witness Daniel Calhoun, 52, said: ‘Common sense says it wasn’t a UFO. Common sense says it was a plane or a balloon, but this thing stopped everyone in the street for two blocks.

‘Any New Yorker will tell you, that alone is extraordinary.’

Witness Pete Bryant, 32, added: ‘There was no way that thing was a balloon… Light just doesn’t reflect off balloons like that.’

Some blog posts linked the sighting to a book published by a retired U.S. Air Force officer which said that October 13, the very day the sighting happened, would witness ‘a massive UFO display over the world’s principal cities’.

Rainbow AND a lightning bolt?

Days of historic heat in southern California came to a spectacular end on Wednesday with thunderstorms, lightening and huge rainbow.

Rain fell steadily in downtown Los Angeles yesterday afternoon as dramatic storm clouds formed over the region, only two days after the highest ever temperatures were recorded.

At the start of the week thermometers hit an astonishing 113F (45C) – beating the previous record set 20 years ago.

New Earth-like planet discovered

Gliese 581g in ‘Goldilocks zone’ of space where liquid water could exist is strong contender for a habitable world

Astronomers have discovered a potentially habitable planet of similar size to Earth in orbit around a nearby star.

A team of planet hunters spotted the alien world circling a red dwarf star called Gliese 581, 20 light years away.

The planet is in the “Goldilocks zone” of space around a star where surface temperatures are neither too hot nor too cold for liquid water to form.

“Our findings offer a very compelling case for a potentially habitable planet,” said Steven Vogt, an astronomer at the University of California, Santa Cruz. “The fact that we were able to detect this planet so quickly and so nearby tells us that planets like this must be really common.”

If confirmed, the planet would be the most Earth-like that has ever been discovered in another solar system and the first strong contender for a habitable one.

More than 400 exoplanets have been discovered by astronomers, but most are gas giants, like Jupiter, that would be inhospitable to life as we know it.

Astronomers used the Keck telescope in Hawaii to study the movement of Gliese 581 in exquisite detail and from their observations inferred the presence of a number of orbiting planets. The team report two new planets in the Astrophysical Journal, bringing the total number known to be circling the star to six.

One of the planets, named Gliese 581g, has a mass of three to four times that of Earth and takes 37 days to orbit the star. Astronomers believe it is a rocky planet with enough gravity to retain an atmosphere.

Unlike the previously discovered planets, Gliese 581g lies squarely in the region of space were life can thrive. “We had planets on both sides of the habitable zone — one too hot and one too cold — and now we have one in the middle that’s just right,” Vogt said.

One side of the planet is always facing the star, much as one side of the moon constantly faces Earth. This means that the far side of the planet is constantly in darkness. The most habitable region of the planet would be the line between the light and dark regions.

“Any emerging life forms would have a wide range of stable climates to choose from and to evolve around, depending on their longitude,” Vogt said.

The average temperature on the planet is estimated to be between -31 to -12C, but the ground temperature would vary from blazing hot on the bright side and freezing on the dark side.

“The number of systems with potentially habitable planets is probably on the order of 10 or 20 percent, and when you multiply that by the hundreds of billions of stars in the Milky Way, that’s a large number. There could be tens of billions of these systems in our galaxy,” said Vogt.

Ancient language mystery deepens

A linguistic mystery has arisen surrounding symbol-inscribed stones in Scotland that predate the formation of the country itself.

The stones are believed to have been carved by members of an ancient people known as the Picts, who thrived in what is now Scotland from the 4th to the 9th Centuries.

These symbols, researchers say, are probably “words” rather than images.

But their conclusions have raised criticism from some linguists.

The research team, led by Professor Rob Lee from Exeter University in the UK, examined symbols on more than 200 carved stones.

They used a mathematical method to quantify patterns contained within the symbols, in an effort to find out if they conveyed meaning.

Professor Lee described the basis of this method.

“If I told you the first letter of a word in English was ‘Q’ and asked you to predict the next letter, you would probably say ‘U’ and you would probably be right,” he explained.

“But if I told you the first letter was ‘T’ you would probably take many more guesses to get it right – that’s a measure of uncertainty.”

Using the symbols, or characters, from the stones, Prof Lee and his colleagues measured this feature of so-called “character to character uncertainty”.

They concluded that the Pictish carvings were “symbolic markings that communicated information” – that these were words rather than pictures.

Prof Lee first published these conclusions in April of this year. But a recent article by French linguist Arnaud Fournet opened up the mystery once again.

Mr Fournet said that, by examining Pictish carvings as if they were “linear symbols”, and by applying the rules of written language to them, the scientists could have produced biased results.

He told BBC News: “It looks like their method is transforming two-dimensional glyphs into a one-dimensional string of symbols.

“The carvings must have some kind of purpose – some kind of meanings, but… it’s very difficult to determine if their conclusion is contained in the raw data or if it’s an artefact of their method.”

Mr Fournet also suggested that the researchers’ methods should be tested and verified for other ancient symbols.

“The line between writing and drawing is not as clear cut as categorised in the paper,” Mr Fournet wrote in his article. “On the whole the conclusion remains pending.”

But Prof Lee says that his most recent analysis of the symbols, which has yet to be published, has reinforced his original conclusions.

He also stressed he did not claim that the carvings were a full and detailed record of the Pictish language.

“The symbols themselves are a very constrained vocabulary,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean that Pictish had such a constrained vocabulary.”

He said the carvings might convey the same sort of meaning as a list, perhaps of significant names, which would explain the limited number of words used.

The next few nights offer two spectacular cosmic views that anyone can enjoy. This weekend marks the peak of a beautiful alignment of the planets Venus, Mars and Saturn in the evening sky. This impressive gathering comes ahead of the annual Perseid meteor shower, a shooting star fest that will be at its best Aug. 11 to 13.

“These three planets are destined to crowd into a relatively small area of the sky, making for a very distinctive and eye-catching formation that is sure to thrill most sky watchers,” said Joe Rao, Skywatching Columnist.

Venus, the famed “Evening Star,” will shine brightest in the sky, with Mars and Saturn appearing fainter. You can see them together any evening now through the meteor shower.

“So while Venus should be more than bright enough to see with the unaided eye in the fading twilight glow, Saturn and Mars will likely be a bit more difficult,” Rao said. “Indeed, although Saturn and Mars are of first magnitude, they appear only about 1/150th as bright as Venus!”

Rao recommends also using binoculars to scan the sky for the planetary alignment, particularly if the sky is hazy. People under dark skies in rural locations will have no trouble spotting the trio.

On the evening of Aug. 12, the three planets will hang together in the western sky before disappearing below the horizon well after sunset. “The planets will hang together in the western sky until 10 pm or so,” according to NASA.

But, the show will go on, when the Perseid meteor shower begins.

The Perseid meteor shower is caused by debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle. Every 133 years the comet swings through the inner solar system and leaves behind a trail of debris. Earth passes through these trails each August. When the comet bits enter our atmosphere, they vaporize, creating the meteors. [Top 10 Perseid Meteor Shower Facts]

Weather permitting, skywatchers can catch these “shooting stars” anywhere, but the best views are under dark skies, away from urban and suburban lights, Rao said.

“The best time to watch for meteors will be from the late-night hours of Wednesday, Aug. 11 on through the predawn hours of Aug. 13 – two full nights and early mornings,” he said. “Patient skywatchers with good conditions could see up to 60 shooting stars an hour or more.”

About an hour after sunset, anyone with a clear and open view of the west-northwest horizon should be able to spot the triangle of three planets shining low in the west.

UFO DISCLOSURE 2010……By The People for The People and High Strangeness in Upstate New York

MUFON Case Report: 24077 Date Reported July 1, 2010 Event Date June 3, 2010

Cigar/Cylinder/Capsule Video capture Silent Daytime Clear Sighting Multiple events. This was filmed on June 3, 2010 at 7:48 PM in Wilton, NY…Saratoga County on Northern Pines Rd and is one of several captures of this capsule type UFO that I see repeatedly and could also be classified as Cigar shaped or cylindrical. in 1998 a Correctional Officer in Fort Ticonderoga, NY captured an identical craft on video, next to church steeple and it appeared on the cover of many UFO magazines. This flying Tube has been captured by many people who post on You tube from around the world and can be seen on my yt channel CosmicDramaQueen the playlist is called UFO Cigar Cylinder Capsule Tube . I was driving home when I stopped to admire the wild flowers in a field on Northern Pines Rd, I was contemplating picking some while I listened to the birds…and then I saw the familiar flying white tube, so I hopped back to my truck, grabbed the camera and filmed this one for a long time. Elevation was well under 5000′ and was approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile with in view. I was facing East and it was flying from the South heading due North. I had this UFO in my sites for so long and because I captured this on several occasions, I got a little bored, so I panned out to show the field and then resumed the filming as it angled away towards the North East. Many people will “Hang on” to the idea that this is a Plane….NOPE…absolutely SILENT…NO wings…No Tail….watch the video closely from beginning to end and YOU too will see that the Lack of wings and tail section IS NOT an optical illusion. I will continue to report and share in the Disclosure Process because if We wait for an official announcement….well, we could possible wait another 60 years. It is We, the people who have to accept the REALITY that UFOs are REAL and are HERE… and then help the one’s who are too afraid to understand this reality! Peace to ALL Beings.
